EDWARD SHAW History of Arizona, page 63 Edward A. Shaw is one of Kingman's best known citizens, having been in business here continuously since 1902 during which period he has met with a splendid measure of success. He was born in Chicago, Illinois, on the 30th day of August 1875, and is the third in order of birth of the four children who were born to James S. and Abbie F. (Hunt) Shaw. His father moved from Chicago to Denver in 1880 and was there engaged in the furniture business until 1910 when he retired from active affairs and moved to California where his death occurred in 1929. Edward A. Shaw received his education in the public and high schools of Denver, after which he took up bookkeeping. Later he was cashier of the bank of El Dora, Colorado. He went to New Mexico in 1899 and shortly afterwards to Bisbee, Arizona, where he worked for the Copper Queen Mining Company for two years. He spent some months in Nevada and California and in 1902 came to Kingman and organized the Arizona Stores Company. This proved a successful venture and he operated it continuously until 1916 when he sold it to the Babbitt Brothers, since which time he has given his attention to mining, being interested in the White Hills mining Company and several other companies. Mr. Shaw married Jessie Starr, of California, a daughter of A.E. Starr and to them have been born five children, Allen Edward, Mary Frances, Alice B., James, Herbert and Billie. Mr. Shaw is a life member of Kingman Lodge No. 468, BPOE of which he is past exalted ruler.
