A.R. ROBERTS Arizona Republican Newspaper December 3, 1897 Somewhere out on the Mojave desert a crazy man from Arizona is wondering, unless he has already succumbed to the heat and thirst. At an early hour this monring A.R. Roberts jumped from the Santa Fe overland train which arrived here a little before noon. He had become suddenly crazed and clad only in his underclothes and wrapped in a sleeping car blanket, he made his way to the platform of the Pullman and leaped to the sands, landing on his feet. He was seen to speed away evidently laboring under the delusion that he was beng pursued by deadly enemies. The train was stopped and a search party organized. The blanket the poor fellow had taken with him was found at Siberia seven miles from the place where he leaped from the car, but not a trace of the maniac could be found. Conductor Hallahan when he found the blanket, called up a gang of section men, started them out on the trail and then brough the train into Los Angeles. Unless the man be found in a few hours he must surely perish.
