WILLIAM PAUL GEARY William Paul Geary, whose reocrd as a member of the legal profession has gained for him a place among tht leading lawyers of Navajo County, is also numbered among its public spirited citizens. He was born in Leominster, Worchester County, Massachusetts on the 12 day of September 1875, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John P. Geary. After completing his education Mr. Geary entered Boston Univeristy from which he was graduated in 1897. He then took up the study of law, was admitted to the bar and in 1901 became a resident of Arizona. From Jauary 1, 1905 to Feb. 14, 1912 he served as district attorney of Navajo County. At the first state election he was chosen a member of the Arizona Corporation Commission and served as chairman of that body until January 1, 1917. In the latter year he was appointed assistant attorney-general of the state of Arizona in which capacity he was serving when the U.S. became involved in the World War. He promptly offered his services and was assigned to the judge advocate's department with the rank of major. He rendered able and effective service throughout the war, at the close of which was honorably discharged. He now holds a commission as colonel in the Officers Reserve Corps and is judge advocate of the Forty Fifth Division. He is a member of Phoenix Lodge No. 335 BPOE and has served as district deputy of that order for Arizona. He is a past commander of the deparmtent of Arizona of the American Legion and is a member of the national executive committee, representing that department. In 1905 Mr. Geary married Lelia Buchanan at Winslow, this state. His entire career has been characterized by a conscientious and able performance of duty and none stands higher than he in the regard of those hwo know him, for he has exemlified a high type of citizenship and has stood consistently for patriotism, loyalty and service. Mr. Geary died at Prescott, December 1929.
