CHET LEAVITT History of Ariozna, page 472 The largest and best equipped garage in northeastern Arizona is that owned by Chet Leavitt at Holbrook, where he is meeting with well deserved success. He was born in Worcester, Massachusetts on March 6, 1882 and is a son of Charles and Celia Belle (Hill) Leavitt. His father was an expert machinist, at which trade he was employed in Worcester and Boston. Mr. Leavitt was educated in the public schools of Somerville Mass. and in 1898 went to work in a wholesale fruit and produce house. In the following year he went to New York City and in 1900 went to Albuquerque, New Mexico where he found employment in A.J. Moloy's Grocery Store. In 1901 he located in Gallup, New Mexico where he became connected with the C.N. Cototn Company by whom he was employed as a stockman and in trading with the Indians. He proved a capable man in that line of buisness which he followed until 1919 when he came to Ariozna, where he was similarly engaged until 1922. Since the latter year he has been engaged in the automobile buisness in Holbrook where he owns a modern and well arranged garage. On Feb. 19, 1903 Mr. Leavitt was married to Julia Meagher, of Gallup New Mexico and they are the parents of a daughter, Dorothy who is a graduate of the Teachers College at Flagstaff.
