A.B. NELSON History of Arizona, page 514 A.B. Nelson, the able and efficient general manger for the Babbitt Brothers Mercantile Company with headquarters at Winslow has gained this responsible position through his loyal and capable service over a long period of years and commands the sincere respect of all with whom he is associated. He was born in Sweden on April 5, 1888 and is a son of Nils and Edna Nelson, the former of whom was a merchant. Mr. Nelson received his educational training in public and private schools in his native country and in 1906 at the age of eighteen came to the United States. He was located for four years in Kansas City, Missouri and then went to Williams Arizona where he went to work in the meat department for Babbitt Brothers. In 1911 he was transferred to that company's store at Flagstaff, where he remained until 1917 when he enlisted for service in the World War joining Company Company I of the First Regiment Arizona Infantry. He went overseas with that command in the summer of 1918, served until the close of the war and returned to this country in April 191 being honorably discharged on May 2. He then resumed his former position with Babbitt Brothers at Flagstaff remaining there until 1921 when he was transferred to that company's store at Winslow, and in 1925 was made manager of the company's interests at Winslow. On December 23, 1919 he married Elsie Stevens of McNary Arizona and they are the parents of two sons John and Frank.
