BERT W. STEINERT History of Arizona, page 579 Bert W. Steinert who holds the responsible position of manager of the City Gas Company at Winslow has had wide and varied experience in practical affairs and is performing the duties of his present position in a very capable manner. He was born in San Antonio, Texas on October 1, 1886 and is the youngest of the ten children who were born to Carl and Ernestine (Lauris) Steinert. His father, who was a contractor during his entire active career, died in 1922. Mr. Steinert attended the public schools of his native city, graduating from high school, after which he spent two years in a military academy. He then went to work as a machinist and airbrake worker on the Galveston, Houston and San Antonio Railroad, which job he held for thirteen years, after which he was for six months with the Texas Pacific Railroad at Fort Worth and at Alamogordo, New Mexico, four months. Going then to Los Angeles, he was with the Southern Pacific Railroad for six months, being then transferred to Point Richmond, northern California where he remained one and a half years. Going then to the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad he went to Houston Texas but later entered the employ of the Southern Pacific for which road he came to Winslow in 1912. Later he went to work for the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe road as foreman of the airbrake department, in which capacity he served until 1922 when he accepted his present position as manger of the City Gas Company. On November 21, 1921 he married Margaret Day and they are the parents of two children, Bert W. and Harriet Louise.
