Walton, who is rendering exceptionally effective service as Secretary of the Chamber of Commerce at Winslow and Immigration Commissioner for Navajo County has had much business experience and came to his present position well qualified for its duties. He was born in Ridgewood, New Jersey on July 25, 1871 and is a son of Thomas T. and Frances H. (Brinsmaid) Walton. His father, who was a successful insurance broker, died in 1877. Mr. Walton received his education in the public schools of his native city and had two years work under a private tutor. In 1888 when sixteen years of age he began his identification with the insurance business and in 1897 he located in Phoenix Arizona where he followed the same line of business. In the following year he established his summer home at Flagstaff, retaining his winter home at Phoenix and carried on the insurance business in both places. In 1903 he turned his attention to the development of the livestock industry in which he met with encouraging success, carrying it on until 1922. In 1916 he established his permanent home in Winslow where he has resided to the present time and in 1912 he entered the U.S. Internal Revenue Service. He resigned that position in January 1927 and accepted that of Clerk of the Board of Supervisors of Navajo County. In 1928 he was elected Secretary of the Winslow Chamber of Commerce and in that same year also became County Immigration Commissioner. He has been a large factor in the successful operation of the Chamber of Commerce and is regarded as effective in matters affecting the commercial and civic welfare. Beginning in 1914 to the present time he has been active in promoting the building of good roads in this state. On May 25, 1896 he married Josephine Martin of New Canaan Connecticut.
