TOM HALEY Pinal Co. Arizona Republican Newspaper Feb 3, 1910 "Honest Tom" Haley, one of the most successful pioneer miners of Arizona has been in Phoenix for the last three days, and returns to his home in Ray this morning. Mr. Haley with his partner, William Souffrien, went into what is now known as the Ray district more than thirty years ago, and they have been there ever since. When they began mining there the district was remote from all settlements and it was only when Phoenix and Eastern penetrated that locality that they were brought in tough with the outside world. They stood off Apaches and worked their claims, and the results have rewarded their courage and good judgment. In late years they have made several important sales and are now among the "best fixed" pioneers in the mining business. They still own some of the best copper property in the district. The famous "Haley Lead Mines" situated on the range two miles east of Ray, which they are still developing, comprise one of the most valuable groups of lead- carbonate mines in the whole west--there being nothing like them outside of the Leadville district--the ore being identical in character with the carbonates which made the wealth of Colorado's great camp. These men, working quietly and without machinery and until recent years working under the most discouraging conditions, have developed the lead properties until now vast bodies of ore are in sight.
