Clarkson celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. They were married in Hayden, March 16, 1914, at the home of friends, by the Rev. Thomas Dodd. Mr. Clarkson, a native of Preston, Idaho, came to Arizona in January 1912, from Holladay, Utah, a month before Arizona became the 48th state, and started working at the smelter in Hayden. Mrs. Clarkson, the former Ethel Breeden, was born in French Lick, Indiana and arrived in Hayden in October of 1912. Mr. Clarkson worked for the American Smelting and Refining Company in Hayden until he retired in 1951 and they moved to Florence. Still not willing to give up working, he got a job at the Pinal General Hospital as maintenance man and finally retired again after 11 years. His hobby is woodworking. Mrs. Clarkson is active in the Florence Rebekah Lodge and is a past Noble Grand. In addition, she is a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoys working in the yard with her flowers. The Pinal Rebekah Lodge honored the couple with a dinner at the Chuck Wagon and presented Mr. Clarkson with an engraved loving cup and gave Mrs. Clarkson a lovely corsage. Later this year they plan a trip to Mrs. Clarkson's home town of French Lick,Indiana with their daughter Mrs. Phyllis Hill and her husband of Napa, California. Their other daughter, Josephine Di Pastena, lives in Kearny, Arizona. They have 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
