MRS. JOSE LOPEZ Febraury 4, 1898 A story of a horrible murder comes from the San Pedro Valley in Pinal county. It occurred near Reddington, either last Saturday night or on Sunday morning for there are two stories of the tragedy. But the one essential fact is that Jose Lopez killed his wife and her body was buried at Tucson yesterday. Lopez was brought to the Pima County jail on Monday and was given an examination in the probate court for his sanity. He was remanded to the custody of the sheriff to be held on a charge of murder. Lopez, his wife and a 2 year old baby lived in a house, a part of which was occupied by another family. Lopez according to one story, was angry at his neighbors and seized an ax with the purpose of exterminating them. When his wife tried to pacify him he turned upon her and split her head with the weapon. According to the other story, he murdered her while she slept with her baby by her side.
