WOOD PORTER Arizona Republican Newspaper June 25, 1892 Florence--F.C. Kibbey shot and dangerously wounded W. Wood Porter at 6:30 pm today. The shooting took place on Main Street in front of J.B. Hawley's store. Porter was shot three times, the shots taking effect in his lungs. Porter is resting easy but the doctor says there is little hope and that he will probably die before morning. After the shooting Kibbey gave himself up to the sheriff and is now in custody. Late last night information reached Phoenix that Porter was dead and a reporter was sent to call on the friends and relatives of both parties. They knew nothing of the affair other than it had occurred. A telegram was received for Judge Porter who lives with Mr. Walker on Yuma Street. The judge is now at Santa Rosa Cal and the news of his son's death was telegraphed him there. Mr. Kibbey and wife were in the city day before yesterday. Porter left for Florence yesterday morning. Kibbey is a brother of Judge Kibbey, a justice of the territory. June 26, 1892 W. Wood Porter is still alive but the doctor has little hopes of his recovery. It is alleged by Kibbey's friends that the cause of the trouble between Kibbey and Porter was the criminal intimacy of the later wit the formers wife, she having made a confession to her husband. Mrs. Kibbey is now lying prostrate and at death's door. Porter has been too weak to make a statement. He has always been regarded as a excellent young man. July 10, 1892 Mr. Wood Porter died at 2:40 this morning having been in a comatose state for four hours previous. The body was sent to Jackson Mississippi for burial. The coroner's jury rendered a verdict that he came to his death by a gun shot wound inflicted by F.C. Kibbey on June 24.
