The deed was done by George A. Williams, no relation of the dead man, but a miner, who was temporarily stopping at Maricopa on his way to California. The shooting occurred in front of the Williams House about 5:30 Sunday evening. Goerge Williams arrived in the junction town Saturday night. He was somewhat under the influence of liquor and missed his train on the main line. All day Sunday he continued drinking till late in the afternoon he had an altercation over the bar of the Williams House with Cy. He and a companion were finally ordered from the house. As they atarted the miner made some remark that angered the hotel man, who picking up a large knife ran around the bar and toward the men who had at that time reached the platform in front of the building. The miner took no chances. Drawing a heavy reovlver from his pocket, he fired and his antagonist fell to the ground. The bullet had passed netirely through the abdominal cavity, penetrating the intestines and liver, making a wound that was fatal. Dr. Goodfellow was telegraphed to at Tucson and came up on the evening express. He did all a surgeon could have done, sewing up the lacerated in testines and giving the wounds antiseptic treatment. The injured man was taken to Tucson on the morning train and placed in the railroad hospital wher everything possible was done for him. But despite all efforts the patient sank steadily, expiring at 3:30 yesterday afternoon. Interment will probably be at Tucson. Williams, the shooter was taken to Florence, the county seat, and there placed in jail to await examination according to the condition of his victim.
