Connolly and Miss Bessie Mathews were wed Thursday at the home of the groom's parents on Harrison Street between First and Second. The groom works for the A&P Railroad. * Harry Brownsetter of Yuma and Miss Laura Kalsman were married yesterday at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. P. Kalsman, 346 W. Monroe. * Dr. H.O. Ramsey and Nellie L. Jackson were married by Judge Phillips last week. Witnesses were James Burson, George McDonald and Mrs. Mary Jackson. Deaths * A Phoenix friend yesterday received a letter from Elvira H. Elle, formerly of Phoenix, announcing the death of her sister Isadore in Denver in Dec. * Robert E. Westbrook, formerly of Prescott, brother of Henry L. Westbrook of Los Angeles, Cal. died Friday, December 17 at the Sisters Hospital. Funeral services will be held at Eassterling and Whitney's undertaking parlors at 2 o'clock today. * Word was received here yesterday morning of the death in Los Angeles on Sunday of a Mr. Spitzer who became quite well known here during a residence for some months. He was during that time a buyer for the Kaufman and Davidson house and resided at the home of P. Kalsman, being a young man of 22 or 23 and was wellliked in the commmunity. * The funeral of Alexander Cole was held yesterday at the Presbyterian Church. * News was received of the death of Mrs. C.E. Orr in Pomeroy Ohio. Mrs. Orr came to Arizona in 1899 and was a teacher at the Indian School. Her husband was a harness maker. They lived at 716 N. 1st Street, Phoenix. * The death of Mrs. Gobin, wife of T. Gobin was reported yesterday at her home on Grand Avenue. She leaves behind her husband and sister. * Mr. John Murray, father of Mrs. W.R. Davenport, Mrs. Edward Landers and Miss Katherine Murray, has died. Crime * Daniel Murder Case--the trial of Robert H. Daniel for the murder of James G. Brown on June 28 last began in Globe Friday morning. A jury was secured the first day and is kept in seclusion during the trial except during the hours of court. Judge Baker of Phoenix is the chief counsel for the defense. The killing of Brown is admitted and a combination of the unwritten law and of self defense it appears to be likely to be urged in the behalf of the accused. It is alleged that the killer was provoked first by insults about his sister and secondly that Brown has made threats against him. * A.J. Daggs of this city was killed yesterday in or near the town of Superior in Pinal County by some persons whose identy is yet unknown. He is supposed to have been in the company of George Hunter who has been in his employ for the past year and who is also supposed to have been killed though his body has not been found. Details are lacking and the news came to Phoenix so late last night, that it was impossible to secure communication with Florence or Superior last night. * Plunder stolen from the plumbing shop of William Evans was recovered last night. * Len Martin's horse was stolen on Thursday in from of Frank Fagel's home on 5th St. The horse was black and is wearing a saddle made at Porters. * There was a hold up Friday night by a masked man of George Eberle, son of the tailor. The robbery occurred on 1st Street. * Marshall Moore and Deputy Sullivan raided an opium joint last Saturday evening. Accidents * Julius Hanson fell from a wagon on New Years Eve and injured his foot. * William Aldridge fell from a tree on New Years Eve and broke his leg. New Businesses * Mrs. and Mr. Frank Anderson took charge of the Mesa Hotel yesterday. They are experienced hotel people and are sure of success. They will begin renting rooms and in a short time will open the dining room. * Frank Clendennen and his nephew of Rocky Ford Colorado have arrived here with their families and expect to make this their home. Mr. Clendennen is a cantalope grower by profession. He has made a success of it in Colorado and thinks he can make a biger one in this valley. * William H. Johnson and William Ransbottom from Canada have decided to stay here and go into business as partners and bring their families. Their shop will be located at 22 N. 2nd Street. * Herman Mees, merchant tailor opened a shop in a room formerly occupied by Green and Griffin. He is bringing his business from Durango Colorado. The shop will be located at 19 S. Center Street Visitors * Mr. and Mrs. C.W. Norton of Louisiana arrived her yeesterday morning to spend the rest of the winter with their son Dr. J.C. Norton. * Frank G. Hough from Tempe, spent a month visiting relatives and is returning to Fallon Nevada today. * Messrs. F.M. Murphy, W.A. Drake, F.P. Cruse and P.O. Hastings are returning for homes in Prescott on the Diamond Jo train this morning. * Mr. And Mrs. S.A. Echlin, daughter Gladys and Professor J.G. Echlin of Ft. Smith Arkansas arrived Thursday as guests of Mrs. S.M. Wilson. Mrs. Echlin is the oldest daughter of Mrs. Wilson. * Colonel Randolph was here in the city yesterday from Tucson with C.M. Scott. * E.M. Hill of Payson was a guest in Phoneix last week. * Mrs. B.V. Cushman and Mrs. B.A. Fowler are the guests of Mrs. Louis Hill this week. * Thomas Kavanaugh of Tucson was here on business. * General Thomas S. Heard is the purchaser of a new auto, one of the finest in the territory. It was expected toarrive by Christmas but has been delayed. It is a Pierce Great Arrow, 4 cylinders and will hold 7 passengers. The price is $5000 fully equipped. * Dr. John Wix Thomas made a trip to Buckeye last week in his 2 cylinder Maxwell. * Thomas Armstrong Jr and D.P.Heard made an auto trip to Tempe last Thursday. * Al Miller was over to Phoenix yesterday in his Rex. * C.W. Vaughn yesterday entertained L.N. Richardson and F.B. Cook to a sumptuous spread at the Wellington. * F.J. Treihaway of the M&P offices is back from a trip to California for several weeks. Mrs. Treihaway will remain in California a short time tovisit her parents. * A telegram was received yesterday by Dr. J.W. Foss, president of the board of trade, in acknowledgement of a congratulatory telegram sent to Dr. James Douglas in Bisbee on New Years Eve. * Walter Lubkin has gone to Yuma to take photographs. * Dr. Hudson left last night for NewOrleans on his way to Havanna Cuba. * Mr. Klotzback and Frankfurter of the Star Livery Stable have added 2 new black teams to their stock. * J.J. McCabe returned from New York. * George Wilbur was down from Mesa today. * Two lots in Goldman's Addition were sold by B.H.
