Slipping on a concrete floor in the engine room of the 
hoist in Shaft A, in the Old Dominion Mine, Thomas 
Ransom, an oiler, fell to an instant death Wednesday 
evening.  The unfortunate man at the time of the 
accident was in the act of oiling parts of the engine 
in the vicinity of a large rapidly revolving fly 
wheel. In the fall his head came in contact with 
the wheel which frightfully crushed the skull.
