MUSH HEAD BILL BROMWELL Arizona Republican Newspaper December 9, 1895 Mush Head Bill was the common appellation in Phoenix these dozen years agone for a burly stage driver, who as he tooled his Concord coach on the old Jim Stewart line to Old Maricopa would recount most marvelous tales to all those who chose to listen. He didn't seem to have good horse sense yet as a driver was one of the best on the line. His appellation he never resented and on account of unfailing good nature and optism was a prime favorite. Here is an item about him from the Prescott Courier: William Brommell was locked up in jail last evening on account of showing signs of insanity. He claimed to have driven a four horse team and wagon loaded with pure gold into Prescott from the Crown King Mine; sai that he had two heads and was troubled with his feet. Another indication that Bromwell was going crazy was the fact that he tried to borrow four bits from the editor of the Courier night before last. Bromwell is better known as Mushhead Bill and may be suffering from the effects of too much alcohol.
