  PRESCOTT. Pop 5500. Yavapai county. A prosperous and enterprising city and the
county seat on the S F P & P Ry l37 miles n w of Phoenix the capital. The city
is beautifully located "on the roof of America" at an altitude of 5347 feel
above sea level and is surrounded by a rich mining and grazing country. Has
Baptist, Catholic, Congregational, Episcopal, Methodist, Methodist-South and
Christian Scientist churches, 4 banks, a trust company, a young ladies academy,
a hospital, a sanitarium, Pioneers Home, a Chamber of Commerce, gas and electric
light plants, 10 hotels, a brewery, a brick plant and 2 theatres. A daily
newspaper the Arizona Journal-Miner and two weeklies the Arizona Journal-Miner
and the Courier are published.
