Jim Bones Arizona Republican Newspaper August 31, 1895 Another one of the old timers passes away "Jim" Bones, as he was known was accidentally killed in the Manhattan Mine at the foot of Mount Union, 12 miles south of Prescott, by the tunnel caving in and a boulder striking him on the top of the head. He and his partner Mr. F. Fletcher, were working the above property and when the cave in took place, both were in the tunnel, Mr. Fletcher being some distance away. The crumbling of the earth occasioned no unusual sound and it was some five minutes afterwards when Mr. Fletcher went to where the rock and dirt had fallen. Mr. Bones was found dead by him, his limbs partially covered by a boulder weighing probably 100 pounds, beside him. He was bleeding profusely from the nose, eyes and ears, and it is supposed that in falling the rock had struck Mr. Bones on the side of the head after he had fallen to the ground overcome by the weight of the loose dirt. The deceased has for a quarter of a century been a resident of this locality and among all, sincere regret is expressed over his sad ending. He leaves a wife and several children. F.S. Williams, in compnay with Undertaker Logan left today to bring the body to this city, where the funeral will take place. Mr. Williams also brought the first news of the accident which has socked everyone to whom he was known, being a prominent old timer and closely identified with this section.
