E.C. CLARK W.S. YOUNG February 10, 1898 A fatal accident occurred in the Copper Queen Mine Friday evening about 5:30 which resulted in the death of two well known miners, E.C. Clark and W.S. Young. The men were engaged in blasting and had loaded two holes and lighted the fuses connecting the explosive material. The first one burned but the second one being in a damp spot gave them some trouble and while they were busied with it the charge first lighted went off with terrible effect, horribly mangling the bodies of the unfortunate men. Clark was instantly killed by the explosion. Young, with a broken leg and covered with wounds, with great effort managed to crawl out of the tunnel and was found an hour later by Charles Warner in a dying condition. He was barely able to tell of the accident and was taken to the hopsital where he died a few hours afterward. The funeral was largely attended.
