ANTONIO GEWGENDO Arizona Republican Newspaper August 11, 1897 Antonio Gewgendo, an Italian miner, was killed inthe Congress Mine on Monday morning. It was at first reorted that he had been buried in a cave-in but it was later leanred that while working on the 300foot level, he was hit on the head by a large rock, which fell from the top of the stope. He was taken to the hospital and died within a couple of hours. He was buried yesterday monring. He leaves a wife and one child. Early in the summer he was taken ill and was brought to the hospital here. He returned to work two months ago. He was a member of the AOUW and had worked at varous mines in the territory for several years.
