JOHN MILLER Arizona Republican Newspaper October 25, 1895 Prescott--A miner from Telluride, Colorado, named C.E. Hobart came to Prescott yesterday and stopped at the Keystone Lodging House, owned by John Miller. This morning in settling his account with Miller a dispute arose over 75 cents, when Hobart got a Winchester rifle and ran Miller out of his own house. Hobart was arrested, but Miller failed to appear against him and he was fined $5 for being drunk and for disturbing the peace. Hobart hired a horse this evening and went to the restaurant, had a lunch put up and rode to Miller's Saloon. There he dismounted, went to the door and taking good aim at his victim, fired. The bullet took effect in Miller's jugular vein, causing instant death. Hobart then mounted his horse and rode away on a run. Sheriff Ruffner was at once notified by telephone. He organized a posse and had started in pursuit in a few minutes. Up to the present time no word has been received from them. Hobart has a sister living in Sacramento, California.
