JUAN FLORES Dec 23, 1896 Deputy Sheriff Smarr was compelled in self defense to shoot a Mexican at Hedges, Cal. fifteen miles from Yuma last Friday. The Mexican was Juan Flores, a bull fighter, who bore a bad reputation. He engaged in a row with another Mexican and when Smarr attempted their arrest they both turned on him with knives. He drew his revolver and shot Flores dead.
