FRED W. WESSELL May 1, 1914 Yuma Sentinel Fred W. Wessell died at his home in Colton, Cal. at one o'clock Monday monring of heart disease. This was the mssage received by County Representative J.R. Kerr from Mrs. Wessell at nine o' clock Monday morning. The interment will be in Colton tomorrow. Fred W. Wessel was for many years a resident of Yuma and at one time was a large land owner in the North Gila Valley. He was appointed by the Board of Supervisors, County School Superintendent and served until statehood was granted. Mr. Wessell was a native of Mississippi, but was reared in the southwest. His education was obtained largely in California. He was a graduate of the Placerville Academy. He married Miss Mary Pettijohn at Colton, California in the early nineties. They have no children. Mr. Wessell engaged in various pursuits in Yuma County after his location here in 1891. He homesteaded a desirable tract of land, was a prospector, a miner and a business man. He was highly estemmed by a large circle of friends.
