(1891) NICOLAUS GADING, a prominent and prosperous farmer of Mount Eden, was born in Germany, October 25, 1824, and early in life chose seamanship as a vocation and followed it for twelve years. In 1854 he came around Cape Horn and located where he now resides, on a farm of 325 acres, all of which is devoted to general agriculture, excepting a few acres of orchard. His father, Christofer Gading, was a native of Germany, a cooper by trade, and came to America in 1855; and his mother, whose name before marriage was Johanna Rose, was also a native of Germany and died in 1849. Mr. Gading was married at Mount Eden, March 20, 1855, to Miss Adelia Meyers, a native of Germany, and they have six children living and one deceased: Christofer N., Mary, Johanna, Claudenia (deceased), Adelia, and Bertha and Lena, twins.
