CLAPP OF U.C. IS CALLED. Berkeley, Feb. 7. Dr. Edward Bull Clapp, professor emeritus of Greek language and literature in the University of California, died this morning at the Alta Vista apartments, following a lingering illness. Dr. Clapp was 63 years old and had been associated with the University since 1894, retiring from the faculty because of ill health two years ago. Graduating from Illinois College in 1875, Professor Clapp took graduate work at Yale and continued his studies at the University of Berlin. He served as professor of Greek in Illinois College and later at Yale, whence he was called to Berkeley. He was a member of the Phi Upsilon fraternity, the Phi Beta Kappa honor society and numerous other literary organizations. Professor Clapp's widow, Mrs. May M. Clapp, is at present in England, visiting her daughter, Mrs. Richard Stewart Dyer-Bennett, formerly Mariam Clapp, who is the wife of a colonel in the British army. Another daughter, Mrs. John Frederick Snook of Caspar, Wyoming, has arrived in Berkeley to take charge of the funeral arrangements."
