San Francisco, Cal., March 24. - Galen Clarke [sic], discoverer of the Mariposa Grove of Big Trees, and for 20 years guardian of the Yosemite Valley, died to- night at the home of his daughter, Dr. Elvira Lee, of Oakland. Mr. Clarke was 96 years of age. He had been confined to his room for a day or two by a cold, and to-night his daughter found him dead in bed. Clarke was born in New Hampshire in 1814. He discovered the giant Sequas [sic] in 1857 while hunting. The aged guardian of Yosemite will be buried in the valley in a tomb which he cut out himself in a huge granite rock within a stone's throw of the Yosemite Falls."
