Farley, loving father of Raymond M. Farley of Piedmont, brother of Mrs. Ada J. Hornbeak of Berkeley, grandfather of Eleanor A. Farley of San Jose and Barbara L. Holloway of Lakewood, great grandfather of James and Dennis Holloway. A native of California, aged 82 years. A member of Oriental Lodge No. 144 F. & A.M. of San Francisco, Transportation Club of San Francisco, the Twenty-five Year Club of the Petroleum Industries and the Commonwealth Club of San Francisco. Friends are invited to attend services at the Telegraph Avenue Chapel of Grant Miller Mortuaries, 2850 Telegraph Avenue, Oakland, Monday, June 29 at 11 a.m., Rev. Wilfred Hodgkin officiating. Interment Mountain View Cemetery [in Oakland]." END AND "Pioneer Oil Executive Farley Dies. Ernest R. Farley, who started his pioneer oilman's career as a toolhouse keeper in Kern River Field and rose to be fuel oil manager for Shell Oil Co., has died at 82. Mr. Farley, who lived at 964 Grosvenor Place in Oakland, had retired in 1947 after 34 years. He died yesterday [in Oakland]. Mr. Farley began his oil work in a variety of jobs, including that of roughneck, well-puller, gang pusher, tool dresser and superintendent. He joined Shell in 1913 as a statistician and, only three years later, headed Shell's first fuel oil sales department in San Francisco. He was a member of Oriental Lodge No. 144 F. & A.M. of San Francisco, Transportation Club of San Francisco, the Petroleum Industries' Twenty-Five Year Club and the Commonwealth Club. Mr. Farley is survived by his son, Raymond M., of Piedmont.
