“MRS. JOHN FRYER DIES AT AN ADVANCED AGE 

Wife of State University Professor Passes Away 

BERKELEY, May 10.  After an illness of three weeks in an Oakland sanatorium 
Mrs. Eliza N. Fryer, wife of Prof. John Fryer, head of the department of 
oriental languages and literatures at the university, died this morning at an 
advanced age. Death came while she was asleep and was due to heart failure.

With her husband, the venerable professor of the university and authority on 
Chinese literatures, languages and customs, Mrs. Fryer resided for many years 
in China, and was received on several occasions by the royalty of that empire.

Mrs. Fryer was active as a worker in the First Congregational church of 
Berkeley and in the various clubs.

Since her return with her husband from a tour of China last year she has been 
making her home at Cloyne court in Ridge road. No arrangements have been made 
for the funeral.” END

“PROFESSOR'S WIFE 'S TO BE LAID TO REST 

Funeral of Mrs. Elizabeth N. Fryer to Be Held Saturday
 
Berkeley, May 11.  The funeral of Mrs. Eliza N. Fryer, wife of Professor John 
Fryer of the university, who died yesterday morning [May 10] at an Oakland 
sanitarium, will be held from the First Congregational church of this city, of 
which she was a member, next Saturday afternoon [May 14] at 2 o'clock.” END
