Death of Elisha Harlan, cousin of Miss Emma C. Smith of Walnut Creek, pioneer Livermore teacher, occurred Sunday [April 17] at Alameda. He was 88 years of age, having been born in San Francisco in 1850, shortly after his father and mother, the late Mr. and Mrs. Joel Harlan, had crossed the plains [in 1846]. Their wagon train was led by George Harlan, grandfather of Elisha Harlan and was for a time with the ill-fated Donner party. Harlan died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Mabel Davidson. Funeral services were held Tuesday in Alameda, interment being at Dublin.” END Additional Comments: Livermore Herald (Livermore, Alameda county, California). April 22, 1938 (Friday). Page 7.
