Arrangements for the funeral services of former Judge Curtis H. Lindley of San Francisco, who died here last night [actually November 20], await the arrival of a son and daughter from Arizona. Judge Lindley, authority on mining jurisprudence and recently chief advisor to Herbert Hoover, died shortly after his return from Arizona where he was engaged in the trial of a mining case. The daughter is Mrs. Vernon Rood and the son Curtis H. Lindley Jr. Judge Lindley was born in Marysville in 1850. He was educated at the college of Santa Clara and the University of California and is the author of text books on mining law. As president of the San Francisco Bar Association, director of the exposition and member of the Golden Gate park commission, he had many local honors.” END AND Oakland Tribune (Oakland, California) November 23, 1920 (Tuesday) Page 14, Column 6 “Judge Lindley Drew Up Charter of Livermore Livermore, Nov. 23. Former Judge Curtis H. Lindley, who died last Saturday night at his home in San Francisco at the age of 70, was a practicing attorney here in the ‘70s, residing here for several years with his wife [Sarah Elizabeth], who is the eldest daughter of the late William M. Mendenhall, the state pioneer of 1845, who owned the present townsite of Livermore and had it surveyed and platted in 1869. Lindley drew up the original charter of Livermore when it was incorporated in 1876, and lived here till about 1880.
