H. MALLETT, OIL MAN, DIES. BERKELEY, Nov. 3. John Holland Mallett, 75, wealthy lumber and oil man, and member of a pioneer San Francisco family, died late yesterday at his home here, 450 Oak Ridge road. Mallett was an authority on early California history, a member of the Bohemian club, and a leading figure in the Sierra club. His father was Capt. John Holland Mallett, who whent to San Francisco in 1836 [?] from England and was a member of the first Vigilantes, pioneer law enforcement group of that day. His mother, Helen Tennent, came from England with her parents, in 1852 by way of Cape Horn. He was married in 1880 to Harriet Fowler, of Napa, also a member of a pioneer family. Her father, Henry Fowler, built General Vallejo's headquarters on the site of what is now Calistoga. Mallett started his career as a medical student but abandoned medicine for commerical pursuits. In the later years of his life he had extensive oil interests, and was active in the lumber industry at the time of his death. Surviving are a widow, Mrs. Harriet Mallett, a brother, C.F. Mallett, two sons, Fowler and Holland K., a daughter, Mrs. Martin C. Wade, and a number of grandchildren." END AND "DEATHS. Wade, and grandfather of Austin Sanderson Mallett, Helen Tennent Mallett, Holly Mallett Wade, and brother of Charles F. Mallett. A native of San Francisco: aged 75 years, 6 months, 25 days.
