Comdr. John C. Mitchell, 48, officer in charge of the U.S. Naval Air Station, radar school in Alameda. He died Thursday at the Oakland U.S. Naval Hospital after a lingering illness. A former instructor of the Oakland Central Trade School, Commander Mitchell was commissioned in the Navy in May, 1942. He is survived by his widow, Elsie, of 633 Haight Avenue; a son, Fireman 1/c John Mitchell; and a brother, Samuel S. Mitchell of Santa Rosa. Services were conducted at the Grant D. Miller chapel at 11 a.m. with burial to follow in the Golden Gate National Cemetery, San Francisco.
