William Mix, aged 65 years, died at 7 o'clock yesterday morning from diabetes, having been seriously ill for only a few days. Deceased came to California in 1848. He was a soldier in the Mexican war. Of late years he has been a searcher of records, being associated in that business with his brother, Gustavo L. Mix. Deceased was a brother-in-law of General R. W. Kirkham, of this city. He was a member of the Athenian Club, also of the Society of Pioneers.” Daily Alta California, January 7, 1890 “THE EASTERN SHORE. The late William Mix was officer of the day for the Vigilance Committee in 1856 when David S. Terry was arrested for stabbing Hopkins. Funeral services will be held at St. John's Church at 2 o'clock to-day. Daily Alta California, January 8, 1890 The late William A. Mix, California Pioneer and Mexican War Veteran, was interred yesterday. Services were held at St. John's Church, Rev. Benj. Akerly officiated. The pall-bearers were E. B. Dean and E. M. Hall, from the Athenian Club; Chauncey Taylor, R. Vandercook, E. R. Perrin and Adolph G. Russ, from the Society of California Pioneers of San Francisco, led by Marshal E. E. Chever of the Pioneers.
