Sacramento Daily Union, June 28, 1872
“City Intelligence
Pioneer Deceased.— Barton Mowry, a California pioneer, died in Alameda county 
on the 4th inst. It is said that he owned the boat which brought to this spot 
[Sacramento] the first miners for Sutter's Fort, and on its return to San 
Francisco took back the first gold found in that vicinity.” END
