A pleasant wedding occurred on Thursday evening [January 17] at the Mastick residence, corner Railroad avenue and Morton street, in Alameda, the parties united in marriage being Josephine H. Hinchman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T. Walworth Hinchman, and Reubens H. Mastick, son of the well-known lawyer, Edwin B. Mastick. The ceremony was performed at 8 o'clock by the Rev. Dr. Perkins in the presence of about 75 immediate friends and relatives of the contracting parties. The bride was given away by her father, while the groom escorted Mrs. Hinchman. A beautiful floral wishbone overhung the bridal party, the parlors and dining-room being profusely decorated with ferns and cut flowers. The bride was attired in her traveling toilet of maroon-colored material, ornamented with raised stripe of the same richly embossed in velvet. An elaborate supper was served at the conclusion of the ceremony. Upon the departure of the bride and groom the traditional slipper was pitched after the rapidly receding carriage, carrying with it the heartfelt wishes of all the invited guests for prolonged health and prosperity to the newly-married couple. Mr. and Mrs. Mastick will make an extended tour throughout the interior of the State, and upon their return will commence housekeeping at the corner of Santa Clara avenue and Willow street, in Alameda.” END Additional Comments: Daily Alta California, January 21, 1884 (Monday), Page 7, Column 1.
