We have already traced the history of the schools in the early days up to 1860, and have seen that Forbestown, then called Oro, No. 1, was one of the first three schools in the county—we may say definitely that it was the third. Afterwards Evansville district was set off as Oro No. 2, and a district called Hansonville also existed for several years. FORBESTOWN DISTRICT.—The school has been supplied with the best teachers to be found in the county. The building is good, and large, an additional room having been added two years ago. One year ago the trustees put in a full supply of the best patent furniture. EVANSVILLE DISTRICT.—In the early days the district was very nourishing, and the school-house on the high hill was the pride of all the region around. By the decline of mining, and by the cutting off of other districts, Evansville became so reduced of late years as to endanger its existence. For a long time a kind of border war existed along, and on account of, the dividing-line between this and the Upham district, but peace now prevails. The district has also been in danger from division on its western boundary. Its families live far apart and it is with difficulty that a school is maintained. But the prospects of the district now are much better than they were two years ago. CLIPPER MILLS DISTRICT was formed by order of the board of supervisors, May 7, 1869, and embracing the extreme eastern corner of the county. The district has a good house, well furnished and eligibly located, and a good school has always been maintained.
