While the entire township yet constituted one school district, the first school was at Enterprise, taught in 1863 by Miss Clara Ford. December 29, 1863, the Mooretown district was formed, embracing all the northeastern part of the township. May 7, 1868, another district still beyond Mooretown was formed, and called Lumpkin district. This last continued for three years, but for lack of children to maintain the school, lapsed by operation of the law. At Enterprise and at Mooretown very excellent school-houses have been built, and furnished with the best patent desks. The schools have been taught almost entirely by young lady teachers.
