James E. Roberts
Dies at Age of 81

James E. Roberts, 81 native of Missouri, died early yesterday morning at the 
Enloe Hospital. He had been a Chico resident since 1916 and was employed at 
the Diamond Match Company from 1917 to last spring.
Mr. Roberts was married in Morgan county, Illinois, in 1868 to Miss Sarah Ann 
Angelo, who died in 1922. Most of his life was spent on a farm living in 
Missouri, Kansas, Iowa, Illinois, and Idaho. He came to California from the 
latter state.
Survivors are one son, Arthur Roberts of Chico; three brothers, A. H. Roberts 
of Pasadena, George and Robert Roberts of Oklahoma and one sister, Eliza of 
Arkansas. Five grandchildren, including Elda Beth Roberts of Chico also 
survive and he was the father-in-law of Mrs. Betty Roberts Ware former 
proprietor of Roberts' Shoe Store.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 tomorrow afternoon from the Bicknell & 
Moore Funeral Home. The Rev. W. L. Mellinger will officiate and burial will be 
in the Chico cemetery.
