OTTO DOLLING, proprietor of Angel's Hotel, Angel's, California, was born in Holstein, Germany, in 1849, son of Victor Dolling. At the proper age he learned the cooper trade, and in 1869 came to California and located at Knight's Ferry, Stanislaus county. Here he continued, off and on, till 1885, mining and prospecting in different localities. He owns some valuable quartz claims, among which are the Claud mine, the Black Oak mine, and the Gold Valley mine, all in Calaveras county. He is also a partner with his brother in a ranch of 1,040 acres at Spokane Falls, Washington. In 1888 he bought the Angel's Hotel of George C. Tryan, and this establishment he has renovated and improved till it is one of the best appointed hotels in the mountains. He spares no pains for the comfort and convenience of his guests, and his ability as a host is well known to the traveling public. In 1886 he married Miss Mary Stickle, a daughter of George Stickle, the pioneer merchant of Angel's. They have one daughter, Zillah Elinne. Mr. Dolling is a member of the Masonic fraternity, Bear Mountain Lodge, No. 76.
