The history of this cemetery began with the discovery of gold in California and the rush to the mother lode. San Andreas is situated in the heart of the mother lode. San Andreas began in 1848 as a Mexican mining camp gaining little attention for years. The first permanent structure wasn't erected until 1851. It grew steadily over the years. By 1866 the Citizens of the town decided that it should become the county seat and the California Supreme Court agreed.
