She was 63 years old. Elaine was born and raised in Santa Cruz, California and married her high school sweet heart, Gene Bryan. She and Gene celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary in March. She graduated from San Jose State with a degree in art and a teaching credential. She pursued her career in teaching for several years. Later, her passion for art became a career. Elaine loved gardening and was an incredible hostess and gourmet cook. Her love of nature developed as a young girl spending summer vacations backpacking in the Sierra with her family. This experience led to express her love of nature and in her artistic talents. Elaine was involved in the arts since childhood and was a part of the artistic community wherever she lived. She won many awards for her watercolor work. It has been featured in several publications throughout the state. She enjoyed her membership in several art leagues in the area and was a partner at the Iron Door Gallery in Murphys. An active church member all her life, Elaine was a member of the First Congregational Church of Murphys. The PEO sisterhood played an important role in Elaine's life. She was a member of VQ. Elaine will be remembered for many ways she brightened this world. Her love of family and friends and respect for all living things shaped the way she lived her life. The beauty of Elaine's life was reflected in her art, which hangs in the hearts and homes of those who knew her. Elaine is survived by her husband, Gene Bryan; daughters and sons-in-law, April and Johathan Porterfield, Jill and Clint Jodie and Katherine and Todd McMakin; grandchildren, Kai, Elizabeth, Quinn, Logan, Anika and Emily; father and step- mother, Bob and Vera Hope; sister, Ellen Hope Bauerle; brother and sister-in- law, Bruce Hope and Paula Hammett; step-sister, Carolyn Welch; step-brother, Henry Bates; sisters-in-law, Barbara Bryan, Peggy Bryan and Cathy Holly and Lee and Emily Duffus. She was preceded in death by her mother, Louise Hope and sister, Carol Hope Bennett. A memorial service will be held at the First Congregational Church of Murphys, California on Saturday, April 16, at 1:00 p.m. in the afternoon. This celebration of Elaine's life will continue at the Masonic Hall in Murphys immediately following the service. Donations in Elaine's name may be made to the American Cancer Society.
