She was born September 21, 1925 to Eugene and Mildred Dufrene in Sutter Creek. She attended local schools and graduated from Ione High School in 1943. Nora enjoyed cattle ranching her entire life and fondly remembered as a young girl going on mountain cattle drives. Nora was a member of the Buena Vista Card and Historical Society and Native Daughters of the Golden West Ione Parlor #33. She enjoyed traveling, gardening in her yard, and her dog, Megan, who stayed by her side to the end. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sandra Gay and Cecil Felkins of Ione; son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Doris Phillips of Seguin, Texas; sister- in-law, Alice Dufrene of Ione; grandchildren, Cecil and his wife, Julie Felkins of Woodland, Ty Felkins of Ione, Will Phillips and Dorothy Phillips both of Texas; and 3 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Thomas Stanton Phillips in November 1990 and brothers, Ralph and Harmon Dufrene. A family Graveside service will be held Thursday, February 24, 2005 at the Ione Public Cemetery in Ione. Interment will follow the service. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to Hospice of Amador County, P.O. Box 595, Jackson, CA 95642 or American Lung Association, 909 12th Street, Sacramento, CA 95814.
