Mrs. Fleming was born January 4, 1908 on the Ross family farm outside Jamestown, Indiana. A graduate of Lodi High Scholl in 1921, she attended the University of California Berkeley, graduating in 1930. Mrs. Fleming did post graduate work at San Jose State before taking a job in La Jolla, California as a dietician. She moved to Murphys California to work as a dietician at Bret Harte Sanitarium. On April 9, 1935 she married William J. Fleming in the First Christian Church in Stockton where her father, Pastor Benjamin Smith, conducted the ceremony. Mrs. Fleming taught grammar school for the Stockton Unified School District for 22 years until her retirement in 1972. She was a past president of the Stockton Garden Club, a 50 year plus member of AAUW, Philomathean Club and a founding member of Delta Mu Alpha. Mrs. Fleming is preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Mr. William J. Fleming. She is survived by sons John Fleming, and his wife Molly, Robert Fleming and a daughter Joan Fleming; a sister-in-law Mary Dutton Smith; 11 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at the Stockton Rural Cemetery at a later date.
