Known to family and friends as "Dolly," she came to Northern California in 1937, as the young bride of Emile Guidici of Sheep Ranch. The couple and their growing family lived in Sheep Ranch until Emile's work with PG & E necessitated a move to the nearby town of Angels Camp. There, Emile and Sylvia shared 60 years of marriage, until Emile's death in 1997. When her youngest child entered high school, she continued her own education, enrolling in Delta Junior College in Stockton where she reveled in the opportunity to develop her creative interests, taking every available class in printmaking and ceramics. In later years her artistic energies would find a new outlet in the numerous painting classes she found in her community. Great satisfaction and many dear friends were derived from her painting activities, parti cipating in art shows, attending painting workshops, and expressing her love of flowers and the landscape with her bold and colorful brushstrokes.
