Willows, January 7th.— An altercation took place here in a saloon last night [January 6] between R[obert] B[urns] Magness and J. W. Morrow. In the scuffle Morrow drew his revolver and shot Magness in the leg. Magness ran out of the saloon, Morrow following closely and firing several shots, one of which took effect, the ball entering the heart, causing instant death. A Coroner's jury was summoned to-day, which returned a verdict in accordance with the above facts. Morrow was committed to jail, to await his examination on the 16th instant.” END [Same article appeared in the Daily Alta California on the same day.] Additional Comments: Sacramento Daily Union, January 8, 1879 (Wednesday), Page 3, Column 3. [Note that Robert B. Magness appears in the Napa County death records, so contrary to the above article, he may have died in Napa County but at least his death was recorded there. He was buried in the Tulocay Cemetery, Napa, with other Magness family members.] File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/ca/colusa/obits/m/magness74ob.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.poppet.org/cafiles/ File size: 1.6 Kb
