This was the second stroke, the first one occurring in Portland, Oregon, about three years ago. It was in the spring of 1876 that the wedding took place in Colusa that united Martin Luther Rice and Miss Josephine Silver, here they reared a large family and made their home until the death of the husband and father, three years ago. Since that Mrs Rice has made her home with her daughter Miss Alice in Sacramento. The remains arrived on the afternoon train and the funeral took place from the Northern Electric Depot at one o'clock, interment being made in the family plot in the Colusa cemetery. Funeral services were held in Sacramento but a few well chosen remarks were made at the grave, by Rev. J. W. Byrd of the Methodist Church of which denomination deceased had been a life long member and active worker. The pall bearers were George H. Hall, G. W. Strickland, N. W. Clements, E. R. Graham, C. C. Johnson and J. N. Scoggins. Mrs Rice was born in Michigan, 64 years ago, coming to California when very young, she settled in Colusa nearly half century ago. She leaves to mourn her loss four daughters and two sons besides two stepchildren, the latter being Thomas A Rice of Colusa and Mrs Mattie Garmire of Kent. Of the immediate family those bereaved are Mrs Mary McIntyre of Pasadena, Mrs Inez Newbauer of San Francisco, Mrs Ella Gould and Miss Alice Rice of Sacramento, Luther B of Stockton and Porter E Rice of Woodland. Besides the near and dear ones she leaves a host of friends to mourn her untimely death.
