RICE CALLED TO LAST RITE Martin Luther Rice, a well known and respected citizen of this city, passed away at 8:40 this morning at the family home on Jay Street. Death was due to injuries he sustained on September 2, while taking a walk he accidentally fell and broke his hip. Deceased was 82 years of age and a native of Green County, Pennsylvania. In 1859 Mr Rice moved from Pennsylvania to Mt.Pleasant, Iowa, and wedded Miss Elizabeth Alender, who died in 1870. In 1872 he came to California and settled in Placerville, where he remained one year and then came to Colusa. He was married to Miss Josephine Silver in 1876. Deceased is survived by his wife, Mrs M.L. Rice, five daughters, Mrs Pres Garmire of Kent, Mrs Walter Newbauer of San Francisco, Mrs L.I. McIntyre of Pasadena; Mrs Ella Gould and Miss Alice Rice of Sacramento, and three sons, Tom Rice of Colusa; Luther V. Rice of Stockton and Porter E Rice of Sacramento. The burial will be held tomorrow afternoon at 3 o'clock.
