All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/ca/cafiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: April Hennes robertjrsmom@yahoo.com January 3, 2008, 9:40 pm Appeal Democrat Friday, November 29, 1940 Pg 1 Lawrence Schillig, Long A Sutter Leader, Taken By Illness at 71 Years Lawrence Schillig, 71, native of Grimes, resident of Sutter county practically his entire life, serving as legislator, district attorney and city attorney of Yuba City, prominent in affairs of the Yuba City -Marysville community for many years, died at his Yuba City home at 5:15 am Friday. Schillig had been critically ill for several days, and the end was expected by family and friends. He was stricken the day before Thanksgiving with an aggravated recurrence of the heart ailment with which he had been afflicted for some time. Funeral services will be held in the chapel of Lipp & Sullivan in Marysville Saturday at 3 pm followed by interment in Sutter City cemetery. Schillig was a member of a pioneer Sacramento family, his parents Mr and Mrs Paul Schillig having located on Grand Island, Colusa County, among the earliest settlers, in the 1850's. After finishing public school, Lawrence attended and graduated Pierce Christian college at College City, In 1889, then completed his education in Hastings Law School in San Francisco, being graduated in 1892 and being immediately admitted to practice in the court of the state. He established himself in Yuba City, and worked there through the years, retired by advancing age.
