Appeal Democrat 08-26-1971 pg A6 Longtime Area Resident Dies Funeral services will be conducted Saturday in Yuba City for Steve M Burtis, 78, a long time area resident who served for many years as a Meridian Elementary School District trustee. He died last night in Marysville Convalescent hospital following a long illness. a native of Sycamore, Colusa County, he had lived for 60 years in Meridian, where he lived at First and D Streets. He was a World War 1 veteran and had retired from farming. Survivors include a son, Dale of Meridian; three daughters, Ivadell Simmons and Bernice Wilson both of Yuba City and Betty Perry of Meridian; a brother, Newell of Sutter; three sisters, Mrs Mabel Phillips of Meridian, Mrs Verne Hall of Sycamore and Mrs Vivian Warner of Ukiah; and eight grandchildren. Services will be Saturday at 10 am at Ullrey Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in Meridian cemetery. Memorials to favorite charities have been suggested.
