In April, 1852, he sailed on board the good ship Empire, via Cape Horn, and after a rough passage of five months, arrived in San Francisco in August of the same year. Mr. Diefenbach immediately engaged in mining in Amador county and continued there some three years. In 1856, we find Mr. Diefenbach in Napa county, engaged in agricultural pursuits, where he resided until 1867, when he came to what has proved to be his future home, and embarked in farming on his present ranch of one hundred and sixty acres, one mile east of Brentwood. In connection with his farm, he owns a meat market in the above town. Mr. Diefenbach is in comfortable circumstances, and respected by all who know him.
