The wounded man was removed from Redfern's place, where the shooting occurred, to the County Hospital, and his right arm, from the elbow to the shoulder, was found shockingly shattered and mangled by the shot, which had entered the side of the neck, shattering the bones about the head of the spinal column and the base of the skull. He died July 4th. Redfern, it seems, had taken Duffy out to his house some days before, and had been spending most of the time there in convivial indulgences with him, until a quarrel arose between them which culminated in the shooting. May 14, 1874, Redfern was declared by a jury, not guilty.
